Development tools at Home
Here is a list of some of the software I use at home.
avast! Free Antivirus (www.avast.com) Fine antivirus program at no charge.
XnView (www.xnview.com) Free image and graphic file viewer/converter.
FileZilla Client (filezilla-project.org) Open Source FTP.
Microsoft Visual Studio (www.microsoft.com/express) Great set of tools to use (I use Visual Basic/C# and SQL Server mostly).
WinMerge (winmerge.org) File compare and merge utility. Normally I try to integrate this with whatever source control software I’m using.
Update March 2021
Notepad++ (notepad-plus-plus.org) Possibly the best text editor – check out the vast array of plugins which extend the functionality in a huge way.
Portable Apps (portableapps.com) All kinds of apps you didn’t know you needed.
PicPick (picpick.app) Screen capture and graphics editor.
Backup Creator (ascompsoftware.com) Back up your data.
